The new CFA F 500 banknote
Why was the new CFA F 500 banknote introduced?
The new CFA F 500 banknote is an addition to the 2003 range of denominations, comprising notes worth 10,000, 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000 CFA francs.
It was put into circulation in the framework of the quality approach adopted by the BCEAO, focusing on listening and customer satisfaction.
Indeed, it appears that, in addition to the CFA F 500 coin, the people of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) wanted a banknote of that face value for smaller transactions.
The new 500 CFA francs banknote, designed in perfect harmony with the other four denominations, will therefore be in circulation concomitantly with the coin of the same value.
It is printed on the same paper as the other banknotes in the current range.
